imageThe right stuff to get your letters answered

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive, particularly by email, is "How can I be sure my question will be answered"?

Because Creative Space is read in many cities across North America, you could well imagine the number of questions I receive on a monthly basis. Often, there will be two or three problem rooms that are remarkably similar, so I will pick one of those and try to answer all three together.

But more often than not, your letters are unique, so I am forced to choose between the ones that provide me with the most information.

The most important for me is a detailed floor plan that gives me all the dimensions I need to work out the basic shell of your problem room. It doesn't have to be pretty, just fairly accurate, and the more information on the plan, the better.

The more written information you give me, the better I can answer the query. Questions like: Who lives with you? What do you do in this space? How do you want to use this space? What is the solar exposure and What existing furniture do you have? all give me the ammunition to battle your decorating dilemmas.

Pictures help me to get a stronger visual on the space, but they are not absolutely necessary.

And finally, I really enjoy knowing where you are (so do my editors!). Please be sure to included your name and city in all correspondance.

I look forward to getting your letters. Feel free at any time to let us know what you think.

All comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

I hope I can help you realize your Creative Space.

Adapt logical geometry to an oddly-shaped room

image

Question

My wife and I are retired with no children living at home.
Our new condominium, currently under construction, is located on the south shore of a lake and has beautiful views through all the windows.
As you can see, the combined living and dining room area is triangular-shaped – almost a pie – and we have no idea how to begin furnishing or decorating this space.
We would like to incorporate an entertainment centre on one wall, with seating for at least five for entertaining.
The unusual shape and wide-openness of the room has us stymied and although we are sure there must be a solution, we have yet to find it despite our best efforts.
